Faculty Development (FD) workshop was held for the further expansion of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) in the Inter-Island Sustainability Educational Program.
During the workshop, discussions covered topics ranging from the fundamentals of COIL-based teaching to practical applications, incorporating real-world examples. The session featured Tamiko Kondo from the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies at the University of the Ryukyus as the guest lecturer. She provided insights into the design and implementation of COIL courses, drawing from past experiences.
The workshop also introduced facilitation techniques to maximize the effectiveness of COIL, strategies for enhancing intercultural online communication, and concrete methods to strengthen collaboration with partner universities. Participants expressed their enthusiasm, stating that they gained a clear understanding of the steps required to introduce COIL courses and found practical ideas useful for course design.
Moving forward, the program will continue to expand COIL-based education and provide faculty support, ensuring richer international collaborative learning opportunities.
