[Jan 24/25, 2025] Inter-island Sustainability Lecture Series #4 “Our Languages: Preservation and Revitalization”

Overview
The fourth session of the Inter-island Sustainability Lecture Series* will focus on “Our Languages,” featuring Okinawan Uchinaaguchi, Hawaiian, and Taiwan’s indigenous languages. As part of a COIL-based educational program connecting Okinawa, Hawaiʻi, and Taiwan, this lecture will bring together three language experts to provide comparative perspectives on island languages.
Key discussions will include the current status of endangered languages in each region, strategies for revitalization, and efforts to sustain these languages for future generations. The lecture will also explore how language preservation and revitalization contribute to cultural identity and sustainability.
